Inspired by the Australian long-sleeve work shirt, early-to-mid 20th century.
Before synthetics arrived and changed everything, the long-sleeved white work shirt was the default. Worn across the stations, the building sites, and the summer trades — it kept the sun off your arms, tucked in when you needed it to, and came out on a Friday evening looking more or less presentable. The details were functional: a chest pocket for the things you needed at hand, a back pleat to give you room when you bent forward, a placket built to take some wear. White because it was easy to assess and easy to bleach.
The Mark takes that logic and refines it. The cut is relaxed and slightly oversized — sits off the shoulder, moves easily — but the proportions are considered. The herringbone-woven placket is a detail worth looking at; it reads as texture before it reads as construction, which is the right way for a detail like that to work.
98% cotton with 2% linen gives the fabric its character. At 185gsm the cloth has some presence — it won't collapse against your frame — and the linen content introduces a slight slub into the weave that keeps it from looking too clean or too precise. It will press flat if you want that, or it will crease naturally and look better for it.
Finished with a single chest pocket, back yoke with box pleat, buttoned cuffs, curved hem, and horn-style buttons.
