Madras cloth has been woven in the south of India for centuries — a lightweight cotton check that became the fabric of choice for trade with European merchants long before it made its way into the Western wardrobe. By the 1960s, the bleeding madras plaids were synonymous with Ivy League summers and off-duty ease, the looseness of the cloth matching the looseness of the mood.
The Rohan takes that tradition and steadies it. Where original madras was known for its dyes running and bleeding with each wash — part of the charm, depending on who you asked — yarn dyeing locks the colour in from the start. The check stays true. The indigo and cream hold. You get the character of madras without the unpredictability.
Cut for warm weather and worn-in comfort, the Rohan sits with a relaxed ease through the chest and shoulders. Point collar, corozo buttons, dual chest pockets with button flap closures. The back yoke and centre pleat give it a little movement, the curved hem keeps it honest whether tucked or not.
