The aloha shirt has been worn by everyone from plantation workers to hotel tourists since it first appeared in Hawaii in the 1930s. By the time it reached Australia it had already been through a few lives — beachside souvenir, summer staple, the thing your dad wore to every barbecue in the '80s. The best versions were always the tonal ones: a single colour ground with the print pulled back to something quieter than the full-noise floral.
The Hilo sits in that tradition without apology. A thyme ground with a white tropical print — palm trees, hibiscus, island scenes — muted enough to wear seriously, interesting enough to be worth looking at. Camp collar, coconut buttons, chest pocket. The linen-rayon blend moves well in the heat and has a natural texture that improves with wear. The kind of shirt that works buttoned up or thrown open over a tee.
