Tiki culture swept through Sydney's bar scene in the decades following the Second World War. Enmore, Kings Cross, the CBD — venues traded in escapism, decking out their interiors with carved totems, bamboo and rum-heavy cocktails, and leaving their matchbooks everywhere. The matchbook was the calling card of any bar worth finding.
The Tiki Bar Reginald Tee wears one of those matchbooks on its back. Jacoby's Tiki Bar, Enmore, Sydney — Mr Simple's Island Escape rendered in the graphic language of the era: hand-illustrated, warm-coloured, a little sun-faded. A small chest hit on the front, the full scene on the back. Vintage white cotton, relaxed cut, exactly what you'd wear to a bar that doesn't exist anymore.
