Simple Vintage
Our latest initiative into becoming more sustainable; The Simple Vintage program uses 'deadstock' fabric that was previously used in clothing production, and is leftover fabric sitting in a market. By using this fabric, our consumptions in creating these capsules are dramatically reduced. Simple Vintage is about creating capsule ranges that are creative & fun to compliment our staple program. Being leftover fabric, each piece in the capsule comes in very limited numbers - so once they sell out, they are gone forever. It's vintage with a modern flare.
CAPSULE RANGES
Simple Vintage collection releases will vary between a collection once a month to a collection every few months. Gathering the fabrics can be hard because they might sell between market trips or their isn't enough of the fabric we want - it's a challenge in every aspect of designing the range, but it's super fun! Each style in these collections will come in very limited numbers, which means as soon as they sell out they won't be coming back. It is truly our modern twist on vintage clothing.
CONSUMPTION REDUCTIONS
By not actually having to create new fabrics from scratch, our water & electricity consumptions are drastically reduced. Following the mantra; reduce, reuse & recycle - we feel like this is a great step towards being more sustainable and distancing ourselves from the 'fast fashion' industry. We definitely aren't a sustainable company yet but we are looking down every avenue. To get an idea of how the garment industry is one of the most polluting in the world, here's some stats:
The following statistics, published by the UNEP and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, give us an idea:
- Every year the fashion industry uses 93 billion cubic meters of water — enough to meet the consumption needs of five million people.
- Around 20 % of wastewater worldwide comes from fabric dyeing and treatment.
- Of the total fibre input used for clothing, 87 % is incinerated or disposed of in a landfill.
- The fashion industry is responsible for 10 % of annual global carbon emissions, more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. At this pace, the fashion industry’s greenhouse gas emissions will surge more than 50 % by 2030.
We look forward to bringing you these capsule collections, which gives you the chance to add a bit of flare to your wardrobe when coming to us for your trustworthy basics.
